The Jacuzzi Boys are spending this weekend bouncing around the Southeastern US playing shows in Huntsville, Memphis and Austin. They're also making a stop in Jackson, Mississippi this Saturday and playing with hometown beer brigadiers, Tuff Luvs, which should turn out to be a pretty fun show. The release of the Jacuzzi Boys' first single on Florida's Dying this past fall was a pleasant reminder that modern psychedelic music is less about tie-dyed t-shirts and fuzzy bears than it is about tar-caked black lights and macabre, fuzz-drenched harmonies. Playing with the form in its darker corners, Jacuzzi Boys deliver a sound with weird muffled vocals, and twangy guitar that floats on a wave of treble. They have another release in the works coming out on Florida's Dying this year, and you can still get a copy of their excellent debut single here.

The Jackson, Mississippi outfit, Tuff Luvs feature Carey Miller of the admirable mid-90s band, The Eunuchs, who, with their handful of releases, burned the floor out from under the collective state of rock'n'roll with an enkindling of 60s-style rock'n'roll doused with 90s-style hedonism. Tuff Luvs depart slightly with more straightforward punk, with chugging intros, blazing guitar and an attitude of carnal gutter comfort that landed them a track on Thrasher Magazine's Beer Slave video.
