One of the most pivotal and vile rock'n roll monsters of the last 20 years are making their way back to Chicago this Wednesday at the Abbey Pub. Once a local weirdo psychedelic band with nothing to lose from the Northwest Chicago suburbs, and now a worldwide sleaze institution, The Dwarves need no introduction, and offer no apologies. With their metamorphosis from paisley underground oddballs out in San Francisco in the mid 80s, to their Ramones-cum GG Allin rebirth only a few years later, they've covered all the bases well, and have always kept a keen eye for social commentary (see "Let's Get Pregnant" off the Lucifer's Crank EP). With their rich history of mixing frivolous drug use, unhinged promiscuity, dangling testicles, and rude remarks with Beach Boys harmonies, insect whores, and lesbian nuns, it's no surprise that their more mainstream sounding material from the later 90s and early 00s still shows their magic touch. Even riding through the gutters of the Sub Pop spotlight and faking the death of Hewhocannotbenamed couldn't tarnish the Dwarves mission, but their hilarious and unruly legacy remains. If you've never seen them, don't be fooled by the later recorded material and be sure to check them out, as they are known to bash out hit after hit from their classic records, based on the last few shows alone. Gearhead rockers Turbo ACs, and locals Mexican Cheerleader and Hotlips Messiah open the show.
