I moved to Chicago around 1995 from Normal, Illinois. This was, of course, right about the time that the scene in Normal was really getting moving and Chicago was trying it's best to kill rock and roll. It was all a crapload of generic pop punk and emo 90's puke that really didn't interest me at all. Nothing but pretension and self righteous ween bag b.s. The hardcore scene wasn't too terrible but I'd pretty much outgrown my hardcore days once I'd heard the New York Dolls and just yearned for some good rock and roll. Well like a knight in shitty armor came the Brides. A gang of pissed off teens from the 'burbs with plenty of attitude, hooks, smart ass lyrics and on stage banter to back it up. How these dudes didn't get in fights at every show is beyond me. Oh wait, maybe they did? Well whatever the case they helped bring Camelot back to it's full grace, bringing in other Rip Off bands from other realms and bringing rock and roll back to Chicago. Now some forty years later they hit the stage with just as much shititude. Kicking people in the face both literally and figuratively. Fuck yeah, the Brides! I was just announced that they will be playing Gonerfest this year too. All the more reason to try and make it back down south. Look for the Brides LP on Hozac sometime in the near future, compiling demos & 7" tracks and rarities, too.
